 Like much of kilt wear there are many elements that have a military background and history. The glengarry evolved as a military hat in the mid-nineteenth century. The hat was worn by the infantry. Today the hat is still worn by the military and civilian alike. As a civilian there are no rules or guidlines you need to follow. Wear what you like and what looks good on you.
